The big move to college can bring up plenty of changes in your life. With the change can come, new friends, places, freedom, and other living factors. Needless to say, many college students need a bit of guidance during the adjustment period. That’s why we at the Highlands Student Housing decided to put together a Student Guide to Reno, NV. We want every local student to get familiar with their new home and get involved with the community and culture!

Getting To Know Your Campus

Let’s start our Student Guide to Reno, NV with the essentials. As a college student, the most important thing you’re going to need to know is where everything is located on campus. Whether you attend UN Reno or Truckee Meadows, we suggest that you explore your campus before your first day of class.

Here are all the maps and information you’ll need to make your way around the campuses in Reno:

Forms of Transportation Around Reno, NV

Car

We highly suggest you get around the Reno area by vehicle. Although it might be the most expensive choice, a smaller vehicle like a car would be the most useful for getting around. Parking permits are a must if you live off-campus unless you take the bus or shuttle to the Univesity of Nevada. You’ll also be able to save plenty of gas money if you drive a car in comparison to driving a truck or SUV. Driving your own vehicle will also give you the ability to get to where you need to be on time.

Here’s a link for more information on Parking Permits for UN Reno.

Bicycle

Opting to use a bicycle to get around is a fairly efficient way to cover plenty of ground and cut off spending on gas. Of course, you’d still need to use a motor-powered vehicle from time to time, but it is still a good idea. The University of Nevada has a bike-rental system in case you don’t own a bike yourself. The cost usually runs at about $30 a month, making it a fairly cheap transportation option.

Walking

Although Reno, NV isn’t the most walkable city in the planet, we do suggest you walk to class if you are capable of doing so. It’ll help you save plenty of money on gas that you can use on other useful resources.
